Al-Naw Hospital Administration Accused of Dismantling Volunteer Initiative

The Resistance Committees of the Eighth District in Omdurman accused the administration of Al-Naw Hospital of attempting to dismantle the hospitals volunteer initiative. They stated that recent decisions aim to halt several humanitarian services that have been provided free of charge since the outbreak of the war, holding the administration and those behind these measures responsible for any decline in medical services.

In a statement issued yesterday, the committees said that the Al-Naw Hospital volunteer initiative has faced "systematic targeting campaigns" in recent times, including harassment of volunteers and the arrest of several of them, in addition to what they described as attempts to marginalize the initiative and end its role within the hospital.

The statement added that the initiative has played a pivotal role since the outbreak of the war in April 2023 by providing free medication, supporting medical staff, and offering services to patients and their companions, as well as contributing to the reopening of the hospital after its closure at the beginning of the war.

The committees alleged that the hospital administration had issued decisions aimed at closing the free pharmacy and terminating the operations of the ward for unidentified patients and the nutrition department, considering these steps a threat to the humanitarian services upon which citizens depend.

The statement also accused security agencies, along with elements it claimed were linked to the former regime, of being behind attempts to dismantle the initiative, seize control of it, and alter its nature, without providing any evidence to support these accusations.

The resistance committees affirmed that the initiative "belongs to the people" and will not allow it to be transformed into a platform for achieving gains or settling scores, emphasizing that the forces that contributed to the reopening of Al-Naw Hospital "are capable of protecting the initiative" should attempts to target it continue.
