At least five civilians were killed and 47 others were injured Wednesday when paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) drones struck a dormitory at Kordofan University in the central Sudanese city of El-Obeid, according to the Sudan Doctors Network.
The independent medical group said the initial toll from the strike stood at five dead and 47 wounded.
It described the attack as part of continuing RSF attacks on civilians and civilian facilities across Sudan.
The network said targeting student accommodation and educational facilities constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and puts civilian lives at risk.
It also warned of “a worrying escalation in attacks on civilian and public-service facilities.”
The group called on the UN and international humanitarian and human rights organizations to condemn attacks on civilian infrastructure, hold those responsible accountable and support an urgent medical response for those injured or otherwise affected.
El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, has faced repeated drone attacks in recent months. On Sept. 20, the Sudan Doctors Network said two people were killed and 20 others injured when RSF drones struck several residential areas in the city.
